The Procedure:

Before the removal of wisdom teeth, a thorough examination is conducted by a dentist or oral surgeon. X-rays are taken to determine the position and condition of the wisdom teeth. The removal procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, but general anesthesia may be used for complex cases.

The dentist or oral surgeon makes an incision in the gum tissue to access the wisdom tooth. In some cases, a small amount of bone covering the tooth may also need to be removed. The tooth is then extracted carefully. Stitches may be required to close the incision, and gauze pads are placed to control bleeding.
